A grass fire that was burning not far off from Keremeos Saturday saw many Highway 3 travelers facing delays.
The fire is believed to be human caused – and is in the mop up stage.
At least one structure is also involved.
Two fire departments, one helicopter and BC Wildfire remain on site.
About 8 kilometers of Highway 3 was closed off for the last bit – and there is no detour available.
That meant many sat in traffic waiting for the road to reopen – looks like the road has been reduced to a single lane of alternating traffic – and Fire Information Officer Kelsey Winter says there are still some delays because of all the congestion.
“The Keremeos fire department is using Highway 3 to stage their relay water tank, so that was the reason why the highway was closed. As soon as they are done with the major mop up of the fire they’ll be removing those relay tanks and opening the highway again.”
If you’re planning to head through there, Drive BC says you can take alternate routes.
Princeton via Highway 5A, as well as Highway 97C to Highway 97 are recommended.
