The president of the University of British Columbia is stepping down from his position, after just over a year on the job.
The school’s board of governors announced Martha Piper will serve as interim president until next September.
She was head of the University from 1997 to 2006.
The University says Arvind Gupta is resigning to pursue his academic career.
He has a PhD in computer science and will return to UBC’s department of computer science.
Gupta was appointed in July 2014.
He is resigning just one year into what was supposed to be a five year term.
