Thursday’s 30-car crash on the Pattullo Bridge has one New Westminster councillor once again calling for much-needed repairs, right away.
Chuck Puchmayr says the bridge’s width and age are further reasons NOT to put the Pattullo on the backburner.
“There’s been some concern with the stability of the bridge and the undercutting of the pilings. And that fact that we’re spending this kind of money on repair, when right out of the blue the Government decides to replace the [Massey] tunnel and build the bridge over there ahead of the Pattullo Bridge is concerning.”
Funds to replace the Pattullo would have come from an increase in the sales tax, but that was voted down in the transit plebiscite.
