Translink has announced it will move to a one-zone fare system for buses, but officials still can’t say how much more that’s going to cost the cash-strapped agency.
Translink currently pulls in $5.50 for every three-zone fare. But when it drops to just one zone for buses on Oct. 5., it will just take $2.75 for those trips.
Acting CEO Cathy McLay had just this to say to reporters when asked about how that will affect the bottom line on Thursday:
“We think that by offering the one zone on buses, it will increase ridership. On net, we think that it’ll all balance out. The increased ridership will cover off any loss.”
When pressed on Friday, a Translink spokesperson said the agency does not have a number.
