The chair of Equality Voice of BC says she would like to see more women running for office, and says a more civil parliament could fix that.
Carolyn Jack says ahead of this federal election, 30% of ridings have no female candidates.
“It had been identified to us by many women anecdotally that one of the reasons why they don’t run for office is because they don’t like the tone.”
“Less likely then men to be recruited to run for office, less likely then men to have the freedom to reconcile work and family obligations, and less likely then men to think they are qualified to run for office.”
Last federal election a record number of 76 women were elected to parliament…but Jack says there is still a long way to go.
