With a coroner’s inquest into the Burns Lake mill explosion over, the sister of one of the victims says she can finally begin to mourn.
Lucy Campbell’s brother Carl Charlie was killed in the 2012 wood-dust fueled explosion at the Babine Forest Products Mill.
She says the last three years have been so intense – she hasn’t been able to honour her brother properly.
“We didn’t even have time for ourselves. Like my parents and my family. Now that this is completed I feel like we can breathe. And really honestly grieve the loss of our brother who was, just, you know the most amazing person.”
Campbell thanked the coroner and jury for their work – and says she’s satisfied with the results.
She says she’s still reeling from the experience. But she says her initial reaction to the inquest’s dozens of recommendations is positive.
“I’m quite pleased with that – all the recommendations. Now just hoping and praying that they will be enforced and followed actually.”
She says she’ll be watching now to see if their dozens of recommendations are followed.
