A coroner’s inquest into a fatal explosion and fire at the Babine Forest Products millsite has come back with a list of recommendations.
Among them: all plants must have proper lighting, stand alone first aid, and properly identified muster stations.
It was dark out as the explosion cut the power; terrified workers couldn’t see where they were going, and the first aid station attached to the sawmill was levelled in the blast.
Babine has also been ordered to develop and implement a comprehensive maintenance program with a focus on potential ignition sources.
Two men died and twenty were injured in the wood-dusted related blast in 2012.
The deadly blast has been ruled accidental.
