BC Hydro is asking customers to try and minimize their use of power.
Spokesperson Mark Poweska says however there’s no need to panic, we still have enough power to meet demand.
“We continue to monitor our use of the energy across the system. We saw a peak on July 9th the highest load we have seen in the summer. We do have enough energy supply for the people in the province but with the water conditions and that we are encouraging people to kind of look at their use and try to minimize it.”
He says people are still being asked to try and reduce their power use.
“No major concerns, we do have enough water in our major reservoirs that we can supply the load as it’s coming but with the low inflows we do encourage people to reduce.”
While there’s a significant increase in the provincial electricity load during a heat wave, BC Hydro records the highest demand of the year during winter months.
Poweska says says Hydro set a new peak load on July 9th.
