The widow of the former RCMP spokesperson is suing the force, after her husband took his own life.
Sergeant Pierre Lemaitre was the face of the BC RCMP for many years, and was the spokesperson in the aftermath of the 2007 death of Robert Dziekanski at Vancouver’s airport.
In a lawsuit filed in BC Supreme Court, Sheila Lemaitre claims her husband was driven to suicide, because of negligence by the RCMP, and harassment on the job.
The lawsuit says Lemaitre was accused of being the “RCMP spin doctor” after releasing incorrect information to the media in the hours after Robert Dziekanski was fatally tasered at YVR in 2007.
The suit alleges he was devastated that his career ambitions were shattered, after he was demoted, and became the “scapegoat” for public criticism of the RCMP.
The family is suing for damages.
None of the allegations have been proven in court.
