The Martin Mars water bomber has been dispatched to its second mission in recent weeks.
Fire Information Officer Marg Drysdale says the Mars is fighting a four hectare fire at Skutz Falls near Cowichan Lake.
“It was an air tanker group. We do have a couple of helis involved, and of course everybody saw the Mars fly over, so everybody was quite excited by that.”
It’s a human caused fire; no homes are believed to be threatened.
The BC Wildfire Service has faced criticism, as the government pays $15,000 a day in standby costs to have the Mars on call, yet the bomber has rarely been deployed.
