A dose of much needed rain is giving a boost to firefighting efforts near West Kelowna.
Fire Information Officer Melissa Klassen says the area got 13 milimetres overnight.
She says that has crews hopeful they can make big gains on the Westside Road fire today.
“Hopefully by the end of the day we’ll be able to increase that 25% containment number. When it’s cool temperatures like this and higher humidities, we’re able to really get in close to where the fire is and work on that perimeter and that containment.”
“And that really helped with suppression efforts. More rain forecasted as well for today and tomorrow, so that’s really going to help keep the fire behaviour down.”
70 families were allowed to return to their homes along Westside Road yesterday – but the area remains under an evacuation alert.
