The City of Vancouver has started cracking down on illegal marijuana dispensaries, after passing new regulations last month.
It sent out a letter this week that says edibles are banned immediately, as is indoor smoking.
Don Briere of Weeds Glass and Gifts says no more sales of edibles won’t have a big impact on business.
“They want to stop immediately all edibles and all dabbing, so we are going to comply with that.”
Briere says the edibles make up a smaller portion of business, and there are alternatives available.
“It’s actually a fairly small part. It is basically for people who can’t smoke, or people who have lung problems or anything like that. So, the thing is, what we will do is give them the capsules with the THC in it.”
The City says inspections are being ramped up, and operators will receive a verbal warning if edibles are spotted for sale.
Shops also won’t be eligible for a new business license if they fail to meet the requirements.
Two of Briere’s three stores will be forced to move because of location rules.
Dispensaries risk a $250.00 fine if they don’t comply.
The city has scheduled two information sessions regarding the new rules for July 30 and August 10.
