Dairy farmers are among the many people praying for rain in the Lower Mainland.
Ken Vandeburgt runs a commercial dairy farm in Dewdney, near Mission.
He says it’s the driest he’s ever seen, and BC is just not prepared for something like this.
“We don’t have irrigation on our farm. We’ve never needed it. And to go invest in something like that — I mean, we’ve never had it where it hasn’t rained in 40 days. Our corn’s just shriveling up, it’s of what it normally is.”
He says that means he’s going to have buy feed from Alberta or Washington State.
As for those cows, Vandeburgt says the hot weather is making them unhappy, sending his production down about 20 per cent.
