Earlier this week the federal government announced the construction of a panel to lead a public consultation on doctor-assisted suicide.
Executive director and lawyer with the BC Civil Liberties Association Josh Paterson, says he does have some concerns about the panel.
“Two of the three people on this panel are firm, firm opponents of physician-assisted dying. People who actually participated in the federal government’s case against us.”
“We do worry about the appearance that there’s some kind of bias going into this. And we are very hopeful that people are going to get a fair hearing from this consultation process.”
Paterson says he hopes people speaking to the panel will get a fair hearing during this consultation process.
