One man is dead and one Mountie suffered a non-life threatening gunshot wound.
It stems from a struggle outside the District 5 office in South Surrey on 18th Ave. and 152 St.
RCMP say a distraught man was screaming outside the office around 2:30 Saturday morning.
Mounties rushed outside, a struggle ensued; the man was shot.
One of the police officers involved was injured during the confrontation and was transported to hospital.
The Independent Investigation Office is looking into the incident.
“The Surrey RCMP are working with the IIO BC with respect to the fatal police involved shooting. Additional resources have been called in to assist, the scene has been secured and we anticipate that public access to the South Surrey office will be restricted in order to support the on-going investigation,” says Supt. Dave Attfield, Surrey RCMP Operations Officer. “Our officer has received medical treatment and is expected to be released from hospital later today”.
It is still too early to determine if the person shot and killed was known to police.
