“The aftermath of this crash here…I’m standing just beside the truck that went off the road. That truck is completely smashed. They also just took away a small white Mazda, the fact that anybody even survived that car crash is amazing.”
Speaking to Shane Foxman on The Sean Leslie Show, reporter Jill Bennett says a terrifying 23 car pileup along the I-5 in Washington is still being cleaned up as traffic is beginning to crawl along the stretch of highway near Mount Vernon.
Bennett says Saturday’s incident involved a semi-truck that crossed over a meridian.
It was further compounded by a detour in that area, as police were investigating a fatal shooting.
“Seven people were injured at least, two people were airlifted in critical condition from this crash site.”
It is believed the semi truck driver experienced a medical emergency at the wheel.
Three of the cars involved were from Canada.
Washington State Trooper Mark Francis says the semi-truck was fully loaded with rocks and dirt as it crossed the meridian.
Francis says the driver of that semi-truck may have been suffering a medical emergency at the wheel.
“It sounds like at least 23 cars…some cars had some minimal damage and it sounds like they took off. But it sounds like at least 23.”
Two of the cars involved in the accident were from BC, and one was from Alberta.
