As the new Leslie Diamond Chair in Cancer Survivor-ship, Dr. Stuart Peacock will lead research around cancer survivors transitioning out of care.
“My role, hopefully, will be able to collaborate and co-ordinate a range of ongoing activities in BC and like you say, focus them so we can improve the well-being of people surviving cancer.”
Dr Peacock will work with both the BC Cancer Foundation and Simon Fraser University.
“Trying to work out what services are effective, what services are needed, what the needs of the community are–These people who have survived cancer, what they need later on in life after they’ve undergone treatment.”
There are almost 200-thousand cancer survivors living in the province, and with advancements in detection and treatment Dr Peacock believes this number will continue to grow.
The Leslie Diamond Chair in Cancer Survivor-ship is a new position, and was created after one million dollar donation from Vancouver businessman Gordon Diamond, in honour of his wife Leslie’s 33 years of cancer survivor-ship.
