“What is it that takes so long for the court system to move ahead? It seems very very glacial pace.”
Mark Surraka is the step father of Lisa Dudley, who died following a targeted shooting in September 2008.
His family is joining Maple Batalia’s family in speaking up about court delays following these painful losses.
“It’s a long long road to walk and it’s a very arduous one. Partly I think, and perhaps the Batalia family feels this way similarly, is that you don’t understand completely why or how that evolves and that it takes so long.”
Maple Batalia was gunned down in the Surrey SFU parking lot almost four years ago.
Surraka says the court delays are appalling.
Both families say it shouldn’t take this much time to give justice to the victims and there needs to be a time limit in courts.
Both daughters’ cases are expected back in court in 2016.
