One man is dead following a noon hour shooting in Burnaby and there may be a link to Vancouver.
RCMP Corporal Daniela Panesar says I-HIT investigators are on scene in the 79-hundred block of Wickham Place.
“This is a tragedy. There’s no place in this community for this kind of incident.”
She says this doesn’t appear to be a random attack, but no suspect has been arrested.
Lynda Kingsley, who lives in the area, heard shots being fired.
“I was in my backyard picking basil. I heard a couple of guys yelling really loud, kind of insane, and then, popping noises and I thought it was a cap gun, so I was going to yell at them and I didn’t, and I’m glad I didn’t.”
No one is saying if this shooting is responsible for the sudden closure of the Vancouver works yard at the bottom of 70th Avenue on Marine Drive.
Around 2:30pm, supervisors visited the yard and told everyone to go home because the evening shift had been cancelled.
Vancouver Mayor Gregor Robertson has now released a statement confirming security has been stepped up at various work-sites as the RCMP and Vancouver Police investigate.
He’s refusing to provide any further comment.
