The family of a slain Surrey teen has launched a petition, hoping to affect change at the federal and provincial level, so victims don’t have to twist waiting for closure.
Harkirat Batalia’s daughter, Maple, was gunned down almost four years ago, those accused of her murder have yet to be prosecuted.
“Every second day there is a shooting, and innocent people are dying. I learned from the radio another person has been killed in Surrey. We pray the law to show some feeling for such innocent people.”
The petition calls on restrictions on stall tactics use by lawyers to get postponements. More resources dedicated to scheduling and rescheduling as quickly as possible and additional resources for victims support services.
Batalia says the last he heard the trail of the accused in his daughters murder, is set to begin in October.
