Is this the sign the nerds takeover of the earth is almost complete?
There is a show on the BBC called QI, which stands for “Quite Interesting.” The QI Elves are responsible for the program on all media platforms.
Today the QI Elves tweeted; People in the UK are 16 times more likely to know the rules of Quidditch than the rules of croquet.
Talk about being completely gob smacked!
I know croquet is not as popular as it once was. We learned how to play growing up. It’s a decent outside game if you have some time. It can get nasty and personal, but ultimately it’s fun.
In the United Kingdom they just wrapped up the Wimbledon tennis tournament, which is played at the All England Lawn Tennis and CROQUET club. Croquet was featured in the 1900 Olympics.
Apparently the English borrowed the game from the French. The modern game has been around since the mid-1800s.
Chris Chase of USA Today pointed out Quidditch is a mythical game created in a coffee shop by a single mom on welfare.
Of course the game comes from the Harry Potter novels. It has been played on university and college campuses. There are leagues around the world!
I stumbled across the Quidditch Canada website. An actual governing body!
Full disclosure I have never seen a Harry Potter movie or read one of the Potter books.
So maybe the nerds are taking over. Perhaps croquet has to find its way into the next Avengers movie.
The last word goes to that Mom who is nowhere near welfare anymore, authour J.K. Rowling who tweeted,
I am proud.
