MLA’s are back at the Legislature today for a rare summer session to debate the Government’s proposed LNG legislation.
The legislation will lead the way for a 36-billion dollar deal with Malaysian energy giant Petronas-backed Pacific NorthWest LNG, by protecting it from future taxes targeting the LNG industry for twenty five years.
That includes everything from carbon tax hikes to new rules on greenhouse gas emissions.
Critics say its a short-sighted move to score political points.
But the Province says it’s what’s needed to spur an industry that will create thousands of jobs, in this case, 4500, and possible billions in economic activity for the BC.
