Is there anything worse than a sports fan that leaves a game early?
You know exactly what I am talking about. Joe Fan who has been up in your section all night, over consuming and acting out like an obnoxious knob, decides to leave early so he can beat the traffic. It’s a sports event, you ding dong. Crowds are going to form wherever you go; it is part of the landscape.
Now I remember being a young man going to the Canucks games out at the Pacific Coliseum, and with the Canucks down a pair with under five minutes to go, the mass exodus would begin. I understood that, the PNE can be like the Bermuda Triangle when getting out of that corner of the City. Very little direct transport out and a traffic jam waiting to happen because of antiquated exits that now jump onto major thoroughfares, you could take days off your life getting out of there.
But at BC Place and Roger’s Arena, there is no excuse. Skytrain is steps away and traffic motors in and out of there with not many issues.
But back to Joe Fan, who wandered out of the Lions game on Friday night after the Leos went down 11 late in the fourth quarter. If Joe were truly a fan, he would know that no lead is safe in the CFL, and while the Riders should have been able to lock it down and win the game, they are 0-3 now because they couldn’t.
To those BC Lions fans out there who were at the game or watching on TV; tell a friend. While the game wasn’t perfect, it was exciting, and that is what you pay money for. You don’t pay money to leave early…just ask the thousands of Joes who should have known better.
