A tragic end to a search for a man who drowned in a boating accident on Sproat Lake in the Alberni Valley area.
It happened around 4:30 yesterday afternoon.
The 41 year old’s Victoria man’s body was pulled from the water Sunday.
Corporal Patrick Jenkins with Port Alberni RCMP says at least one of the causes has been determined.
“We were able to rule out alcohol being a factor. Speed, was speed a factor? We believe that speed was a factor. Weather and sea conditions, that is something that we look at as well, and we’re still looking at.”
Jenkins says the second man – who was pulled out of the water yesterday – is still recovering in hospital.
On Saturday, Port Alberni RCMP, along with the Alberni Search and Rescue Team, arrived to find the recreational boat fully submerged.
The one man was pulled from the water by a father and a daughter who witnessed the incident.
The identities of the two men are not being released.
