Some people in Delta have been fined hundreds of dollars for sneaking into parks temporarily shut down due to the hot and dry weather.
Hugh Davies with the Corporation of Delta says some violators have been charged with trespassing, which carries a fine of $200.
“We have warned a few people that legitimately got into the park area through alternate means; they found trails of their own to get in there. Those have been closed up with more signs. And we have issued some tickets to people who have been in the park. The fine is $200.00.”
“All the areas that are out of bounds have been posted. There is lots of signs out there so it is very difficult to get into any of the areas without seeing the signs. Enforcement is being done my parks patrol officers, bylaw patrol officers, and members of the Delta Police Department.”
The parks currently closed are Boundary Bay, Watershed, Cougar Canyon, North 40, and Delta Nature.
Despite the recent rainfall, Hughes isn’t sure when the parks will be re-opened.
