The Mayor of Abbotsford says it’s launched a “sprinkling patrol team” to crack down on water hogs, as that city enters stage 3 water restrictions.
Mayor Henry Braun says unseasonably warm temperatures, a lack of rainfall and the reduced snowpack means Dickson Lake water levels are low, so stage 3 restrictions, including an outright ban on watering lawns, and is necessary.
He doesn’t think anyone has been fined yet, but some repeat offenders are being warned.
“We’ve got some University students that we’ve hired who are actually patrolling certain neighborhoods where we know that there has been water usage throughout the night, which tells us that its irrigation or somebody has been watering their lawns, or they have a leak.”
Braun says water consumption has dropped 10%.
