An investigation is underway after someone appears to have set a dozen fires along a North Vancouver trail.
Assistant District Fire Chief Mike Cairns says a resident alerted them to the fires running along a one kilometre stretch of Hastings Creek this morning.
By the time fire fighters arrived people living near-by were doing what they could to keep the flames under control.
“Some of the residents near the bottom of trail had…..they were putting buckets of water from the creek…. and I think some of their garden hoses on a couple of them so they were taking care of a few of them.”
Cairns says some areas were just smoldering, some had flames, and three or four were about one hundred square feet.
He says if the winds were blowing, or they weren’t alerted so quickly, this could have been disastrous.
