More than 900 wildfires have been reported in BC this year, that’s more than double the number of fires reported in the same time period last year.
31 new fires sprung to life yesterday, as the BC Wildfire Service tackles 189 active fires province- wide.
There are currently five states of local emergency and eight evacuation alerts and orders in effect.
The Boulder Creek Wildfire near Pemberton is affecting three commercial properties and two cabins, and the Sechelt Mine fire is affecting 21 waterfront properties.
Over 1,000 of B.C.’s firefighters are deployed throughout the province, and over 600 contract firefighters are helping in the fight.
Personnel from Ontario have arrived and are deployed throughout the Coastal Fire Centre and Southeast Fire Centre.
Air quality advisories remain in effect in several areas of the province – including the Lower Mainland, and the Sea-to-Sky Corridor.
There is finally reprieve in the forecast- with a good chance of rain on Sunday.
