A Vancouver man is one of two young men who died after attending a weekend electronic music festival at the Gorge in Washington State.
Barb McLintock with the BC’s coroner’s service says 22-year-old Vivek Pandher died Sunday at Vancouver General Hospital.
The UBC engineering grad was transferred to Canada after falling ill on the 27th.
McLintock says Pandher’s death is being investigated.
The Grant County Sheriff Department in Washington is looking into the death of the other young man who died.
The causes of death have not yet been determined.
Staff at the Quincy Valley Medical Center near the Gorge say this year was one of the worst for sick kids from the festival.
Glenda Bishop says the number of youth they treated this year has averaged out to 53, but the severity of illness was critical in many cases, she says, from taking Molly.
“We saw Molly mixed with methamphetamine. We saw tox screens that often showed the presence of as many as four illegal drugs.”
Add to that, Bishop says, alcohol and dehydration.
She says 35 people were treated at their center including 8 admitted and 8 transferred for greater care.
Bishop says they are frustrated because this is an issue with this festival every year.
