A disciplinary board has found a Kamloops dental surgeon, who left a patient severely brain damaged, behaved incompetently.
The decision from the BC College of Dental Surgeons shows Dr. Bobby Rishiraj gave deep sedation when he wasn’t supposed to, failed to properly monitor his patient and didn’t recognize when she went into cardiac failure.
His penalty will be determined at a later date.
In the meantime, Rishiraj is continuing to work, as he has all along, with conditions on his use of sedation.
In 2013, an 18-year-old patient suffered permanent brain damage when she went in to have her wisdom teeth removed.
Her identity has been withheld at her family’s request.
