With just a few minutes to go before kickoff at FIFA’s Women’s World Cup, fans around the city are getting ready to cheer on their team of choice.
The US is taking on Japan at BC Place Stadium.
Soccer fans from all over the world are gathering at Jack Poole Plaza where a big screen TV will be broadcasting most of the match.
Fan: “Well, we’re excited. Actually, we’re Canadians cheering for the Americans, though, in our American gear…just because our team fell out of contention but uh…so we’re behind the US. We’re being good neighbours on this one and really happy to see all the Americans in town for the game as well.”
Either Japan or the USA will be left holding up the FIFA world cup tonight at BC place….and fans from across the United States have descended upon the city to support their team.
American soccer fans are here in full force to watch their team play.
“We came from San Diego, California.”
“Colorado like Long Mont Boulder…Denver and Los Angeles.”
American fans are confident their team will win tonight.
“To see US jerseys…like everyone is here, it’s so supportive.”
This game is a repeat of the last World Cup Final in 2011, where Japan beat the USA in penalty kicks to win the cup.
“Excited and nervous, but totally stoked!”
“Ready for the girls to bring the cup home to where it belongs…pretty confident going in…”
“I really like Abby Wambach, Megan Rapinoe, Alex Morgan…1-0 or 2-0 USA.”
If the US does win, it will be their first FIFA Women’s World Cup victory since 1999.
The game starts at 4:00 PM local time.
