Vancouver’s City Manager says all things considered the event was handled very well by police and participants at the Cannabis Day smoke-in at the Art Galley.
“They did respect our very clear message that you can not come and start setting up vending table and do your thing and we’re not going to allow you to do that and in the nicest possible way the VPD didn’t let them do that and the city was right there with them.”
Penny Ballem was reacting to yesterday’s arrests of 4 people that followed yelling, pushing, and shoving as VPD officers moved in to arrest one man for allegedly selling marijuana to minors.
Ballem says it’s a “whole new day” now with the City’s recent move to regulate dispensaries.
Going forward she says the City has every expectation Cannabis Day and 4/20 events will be responsible, and held with permits like all other events in Vancouver.
