A massive fire burning North of Fort Nelson is threatening an oil and gas camp in Northern BC.
The Northern Rockies Regional Muncipality has issed an evacuation order affecting 15 people in the camp.
It has also just issued a state of emergency.
“We do have a dry cold front passing through the area over tonight and the next 24 to 36 hours, which will bring increased winds. So we are expecting to see some extreme wildfire behaviour. So the BC Wildfire Servie has recommended the evacuation alert be upgraded to an order.”
Fire Information officer Jill Kelsh says the Petitot fire is getting close to the camp.
“At this point it is just precautiionary. We have what is called a trigger point. When the fire comes within five kilometres of the plant we recommend that it become an evacuation order. It still hasn’t hit that trigger point yet but we do expect it to hit it today. So it is still a good five kilometres away from the camp”
The fire is 33-hundred hectares in size and is not contained.
