Surrey RCMP are warning North Surrey residents – especially those living near green spaces, to be on the lookout for bears and cougars.
Corporal Scotty Schumann says with berries starting to ripen, the animals are on the move…
“You don’t want to try and engage a wild animal, it’s always a good idea to make a lot of noise so that you don’t surprise the animal, and they know you’re there, most of the time that will be enough to scare them away.”
A cougar was spotted last week in south Surrey.
“Normally we don’t have to take any action I think they’re kinda spooked by all the people and they find their way out quite quickly but it’s always good to give a little reminder to people to be safe.”
