The Gillis cleansing is almost complete.
VP of Hockey Operations /Assistant GM Lawrence Gilman and VP Player Personnel/Assistant GM Lorne Henning had their access cards to 800 Griffiths Way taken away today.
These two men were key cogs with Mike Gillis when he was the El Presidente and general manager of the Canucks.
A few folks were surprised when Trevor and Jim retained the duo when they took over just over a year ago. It made sense to keep them around the office. For a few hundred thousand dollars, maybe more for a year, Benning and Linden had a couple of chaps who helped them transition into their new gigs. Of course you mine the pair for information; perhaps you learn a thing or two and let them go.
It happens a lot in the business world.
Perhaps losing in the first round of the playoffs was not horrible for the Canucks brass. They know the team was not good enough and the house cleaning of the old guard is almost complete.
Alex Burrows should probably keep checking his phone this summer.
It is almost like the 2008-2014 era does not exist at the Raj.
Don’t worry, even if the Mike Gillis years disappear mysteriously from the media guide and public record, you can still chat with Bruce Dowbiggin, Tony Gallagher, Cory Schneider or Roberto Luongo to find out how wonderful he is.
The current management group has had a years grace period, now with these moves, it’s on them and they cannot blame the people before them.
For Linden and Benning the new boss is definitely not the same as the old boss.
