Vancouver’s mayor and city staff are considering more legal action to keep CP from starting up rail traffic again along the Arbutus corridor.
“We’re very concerned.”
City Manager Penny Ballem says the track has been abandoned nearly 15 years and running trains through the area again would compromise safety.
“Its got nearly 50 crossings. We’ve had really no response, other than we have to assume that Transport Canada doesn’t share any of our concerns, but that, in and of itself, is very concerning to us.”
Mayor Gregor Robertson has issued a statement claiming the city is being bullied by CP which sent out more warning letters for residents to stay off the private property.
Earlier this year, a judge ruled in favour of the company because the Arbutus line is still operational.
No comment from CP Rail on the City’s threat of more legal action.
