As Merritt RCMP investigates yesterday’s tow truck and bus crash that left many people injured along a stretch of Highway 5, the Ministry of Transportation says it too will be pitching in.
Richmond based bus company Universal Coach Lines will undergo a safety audit immediately.
Transportation Minister Todd Stone spoke to Radio NL in Kamloops.
“We’ll be taking a look at Universal Coach Lines’ safety record, very, very, very closely. Both from a perspective of the mechanics of – the mechanical operation of their buses. We’ll also be taking a look at the safety record of their drivers that they have on record with their company as well.”
There are still two people recovering in hospital because of the accident.
Their condition is not being disclosed, but Darshan Lindsey with Interior Health says their injuries need additional hospital care.
“At this time, we have two patients remaining in hospital in Kamloops and Kelowna. The remainder of the patients that we received were treated and discharged.”
CKNW has reached out to Universal Coach Lines for comment about yesterday morning’s accident, as well as a comment regarding the investigation and upcoming audit.
The company has yet to respond.
