Surrey RCMP says a young woman is in hospital after she and a number of other people were walking along train tracks at around 12:30 Saturday morning.
The 19 year old’s arm getting caught up in a running train.
Staff Sgt. Blair McColl explains what happened.
“As the train approached Old Yale Road, and a switch point at that location, it slowed right down to a crawl. It stopped, and slowly backed up to change tracks. It was at this point one of the girls tried to jump onto the train, slipped and fell with her arm going under the train, under the track, and her arm was amputated right below the elbow.”
McColl says the group had left a party, and were trying to keep pace with the train – some apparently trying to jump on it.
While the woman did lose her arm, she is recovering in hospital with non-life threatening injuries.
