Despite the federal government’s repeated calls, it appears Vancouver police still won’t go after medical marijuana dispensaries.
The bylaws are now official in Vancouver, and the federal government has once again urging police to enforce the law when it comes to an illegal industry.
CKNW asked for comment from VPD Chief Adam Palmer, but instead was emailed a statement.
It says the marijuana stores remain illegal regardless of any license issued by the city.
Police need to prioritize their resources, and have bigger priorities, such as the crime and violence linked to other drugs like cocaine and heroin.
It says its policies have not charged, and that dispensaries, licensed or not, still risk police attention “if public safety becomes a concern.”
