Long delays caused by routine track maintenance, and a flood of people, had football fans frustrated at the Stadium SkyTrain station following the Women’s World Cup match between Japan and the Netherlands Tuesday night.
TransLink spokesperson Anne Drennan says they did delay the track maintenance knowing there would be a surge of people coming from the game, but…
“The initial surge had past, and they felt that it was safe to begin the maintenance. There were then second, third and fourth waves that came down to the station, and as a result the station was crowded for a period of time.”
Drennan say the maintenance is nothing new, TransLink routinely shuts down a single track to do work, but still they will review this incident to avoid future inconveniences.”
“This is something that will be taken back to TransLink and it will be reviewed to see if there are contingency plans that can be put in place.”
