“I would just feel terrible if someone were able to buy that flag from our store and use it for that purpose.”
A Vancouver-based chain of stores that sells the Confederate flag says “after much consideration,” it will stop selling the controversial banners until further notice.
Flag Shop president Susan Braverson tells Global BC concerns have been raised in the wake of the mass shooting in South Carolina, in which the shooter was known to pose with the Confederate flag.
Braverman says she can’t imagine her flags being linked to something as disturbing as last week’s massacre of nine people at a historic black church.
“I could no longer just sit back and wait for things to blow down and blow over. It’s when people are asking me why we’re selling a flag that represents hate.”
She says it’s a financial loss worth bearing.
