She chaired the Vancouver School Board for six years, and she’s willing to do it again.
On Wednesday trustees will vote for their new chairperson- in the wake of rookie NPA Christopher Richardson’s surprise resignation last week.
“I’ve had a discussion with my Vision colleagues in my caucus and I have agreed, after discussion with them that I will accept a nomination for chair of the school board, but it will be up of course to the board to choose who will be the next chairperson.”
Patti Bacchus says she’ll accept the nomination if her name is put forward, but with four Vision trustees, four NPA trustees, and a lone Green party member with the deciding vote, she doesn’t know how it will go.
“I really don’t know, and it’s not a position I am actively seeking, I agreed I would do it if there is support for me to do it. We do have a very split board and we have some challenging times ahead, I think it’s important we get back to teaching and learning in schools.”
Richardson said his departure is due to “deeply personal reasons” although he will stay on as a trustee.
