It’s not one of the drugs most commonly seen used by young people, but Abbotsford Police say recreational Gamma Hydroxybutyrate (GHB) use does happen.
Constable Ian MacDonald says a young person called 911 to report three friends were reacting badly to the drug, after taking it at a local park.
Police and paramedics found a 19-year-old man and 15-year-old girl unconscious.
A 17-year-old girl was just barely responsive.
Older male, younger women
MacDonald says it is concerning a 19-year-old guy was spending time with younger girls, but it’s not the main focus.
“Ultimately the 19-year-old is in hospital, and essentially facing the same circumstances as the 15 and 17 year olds. Certainly, why they’re in each others’ company is a concern to police and to parents as well.”
One teen, a hero
MacDonald says the three teens are expected to survive, but likely owe their lives to their quick thinking friend.
“For whatever reason, they made two good decisions last night. One was in not taking the drug themselves. Two was calling police immediately when they saw their friends in medical distress.”
Police are now looking into where the young people got ahold of the drugs in the first place.
