An RCMP officer convicted of perjury involving the taser-related death of Polish immigrant Robert Dziekanski is set find out Monday if he’s going to spend time in jail.
Kwesi Millington is hoping for a one-year conditional sentence, but prosecutors want him to spend up to three years behind bars.
In October 2007, he was one of four Mounties involved in a fatal confrontation with a Polish immigrant, who died on the floor of the Vancouver airport.
Millington’s lawyer says the now-38-year-old remains on sick leave because he suffers from depression and post traumatic stress disorder.
He also says he’s considered a first-time offender, suffered intense media scrutiny and if he goes to prison will definitely lose his job.
Millington already plans to appeal his conviction.
