One person is in hospital with serious injuries and a driver arrested after a four-car crash on the Pattullo Bridge yesterday evening, which remains closed.
Surrey RCMP Staff Sergeant Blair McColl with the preliminary findings of the crash.
“A truck was northbound, leaving the Surrey side into New West on the Pattullo Bridge at a high rate of speed, lost control, striking a vehicle that was southbound. The truck regained control, went a little further, lost control again, hit another vehicle that was southbound across the bridge, then very shortly after came to rest in the northbound lanes of the bridge.”
As investigators believe speed to be a large factor in the accident, McColl says the driver has been arrested; no word on if alcohol played a part in the crash.
The person transported to hospital was initially believed to be suffering from critical injuries, but that has since been downgraded.
All other people involved in the crash were treated with relatively minor injuries.
New West Police – who assisted on the scene, tweeted they expect the Pattullo Bridge to remain closed until 2 to 5AM.
New West’s Police Department tweeted out they expect the bridge to be closed until 2AM to 5AM.
Expect Patullo Bridge to be closed to 5 to 8 hours. Serious accident. All traffic must use other bridges. Thank you.
