A loyal CKNW listener has taken it upon himself to crusade against the sale of fireworks in Coquitlam… for private Canada Day festivities.
“There’s just too many things that could go wrong. Err on the side of caution.”
Ed Rogers says, given the tinder dry conditions, the operators of a local store on First Nations property should cancel sales this summer.
“Grass fires, forest fire possibly and/or homes getting burned. I don’t think it’s a good idea.”
He says he has support from the fire chief, but sales are allowed between June 17th and July 1st.
“They allow a third party to sell the fireworks and the third party gives a portion of the profits back to the Kwikwetlem First Nations.”
Rogers adds he’s also concerned about young people getting their hands on the fireworks.
