After hours of tracking it through North Vancouver streets, conservation officers shot dead a cougar Monday morning on Highland near Edgemont streets.
Sgt. Todd Hunter says it’s likely the year-old female has a sibling nearby.
“It’s less likely there is a mother along with this cougar. It’s obviously preying on animals on its own, so it has learned to hunt and adapt to this area.”
Hunter says the first call came in before midnight with a report the cougar was preying on a family cat.
At 3 a.m., Hunter says, the original caller rang again saying the cougar was back preying on a couple raccoons.
