Days after a Nobel Prize-winning scientist put his foot in his mouth, female scientists around the world have taken to Twitter to school him.
Sir Tim Hunt told a world conference of science journalists this week that labs should be segregated by gender, saying, “When women are in the lab, you fall in love with them, they fall in love with you and when you criticize them, they cry.”
Female scientists around the world were not amused, and are posting their frustration online under #distractinglysexy on social media.
Says Anne Hilborn, an ecologist, with a picture of her out in the field: “I was so #distractinglysexy when collecting cheetah crap that even I lost track of what I was doing and dropped some.”
And from veterinarian Vanessa Adams, with a picture of her in a barn: “Here I am shoulder-deep in cow rectum, so seductive!”
Hunt has since resigned his position at the University of London.
