The Steve Nash Fitness club in South Surrey is going to make some changes after a little girl managed to make a get away from the club’s kids area.
“This is a first this has never happened before where we have had a child slip out the door and we want to make sure it never happens again.”
Colleen Kirk speaks for the Steve Nash Fitness group and says it happened Monday night while the one-year-old girl’s dad was working out.
Kirk says staff were told the child had made it out of the building and quickly rounded her up, as for the parents reaction..
“Very upset and frightened. That is a terrible thing for a parent to experience. It is very regretable. We were shocked and stunned to learn of that happening. It has become our number one priority. Children need to be safe.”
Some changes have already been made.
“One of the staff members was terminated because protocol was not followed unfortunately.”
As for how the little girl made her get away.
“From what we can see the door had been opened and was being held open, I don’t who was talking, but this one child exited and this little girl followed him out. She just slipped through the door. As far as we can tell that is what happened.”
Kirk says the fitness club is now reviewing all of its procedures to make sure that this doesn’t happen again.
