One police officer was killed and another injured in Edmonton Monday night in a shooting, according to Police Chief Ron Knecht.
“Of far greater importance. A wife is without a husband tonight, and two young children are without a loving father. This is a tragedy of unspeakable proportion.”
Constable Daniel Woodall, originally from Great Britain succumbed to his injuries at the scene of an incident in Edmonton Monday evening.
The second officer, 38-year-old Sergeant Jason Harley, was shot in the lower back but is expected to make a full recovery.
Woodall was at the home where the incident took place to deliver a warrant for criminal harassment when the officers came under fire.
Police Chief Knecht says both officers were shot while responding to a “hate crimes issue” to execute an arrest warrant at a home on the west side of Edmonton, that subsequently was engulfed in flames.
According to our sister station CHED 630, residents throughout Edmonton were beginning to turn on their porch lights to show solidarity in their collective loss of one of their own.
